  • NMH (23-8)  76
  • Brewster (34-5)  79  OT
  • What a four days it has been for the NMH boys basketball team. It feels like we had 2 weeks of experiences in 4 days. It started on Sunday when the team made the trip to New Hampshire to cheer on the NMH boys hockey team in the NEPSAC championships. The team was inspired by the heart, determination and “leave it all on the ice” attitude of the boys hockey team. Then things got started on Tuesday for the basketball team with the quarterfinals of the National Championships in New Haven. NMH took down #4 team in the country, Notre Dame Prep, 85-78. There was a quick turn around and got right back at it with an 11:00am tip on Wednesday for the Final Four. NMH took on the #1 team in the country, and previously unbeaten, Hargrave Military Academy. NMH played a tough, physical game to come away with the hard earned, 86-83 win to advance to the National Championship game.
  • NMH gave a great effort in the National Championship game and had terrific support from the NMH faithful in the crowd. The boys gave us a performance to be proud of in the championship game. Well done, boys! NMH loses an exciting game, 79-76 in overtime.
  • NMH boys basketball ties a school record with a 23 win season and their first trip to the National Championship game. It was a terrific year!
  • Thank you all for the support you showed the team this year!

NMH Headed to Prep Championship Finals

March 10th, 2010
New England Recruiting Report

Northfield Mount Hermon upsets top ranked Hargrave Military Academy to reach tonight’s National Prep Championship finals.

Northfield Mount Hermon scored perhaps the biggest win in the school’s history as they knocked off top ranked, and previously undefeated, Hargrave Military Academy in the semi-finals of the National Prep Championship 86-83.

NMH opened a double digit lead early in the first and was able to keep the lead around that mark for the vast majority of the remainder of the half and the better part of the second.

But as all great teams do, Hargrave would make a run and actually take their first lead of the game when Pittsburgh bound guard Isaiah Epps layed in a finger roll with only two minutes to play in the game.

On the subsequent possession NMH earned a baseline out of bounds play and, after a timeout, Matt Brown perfectly executed a scripted back-cut to give NMH the lead back once and for all.

After NMH earned a stop on the defensive end, Brown would step up again, grabbing the defensive rebound and icing the game at the free-throw line.

Down three, Hargrave had one final chance to send the game to overtime but Epps’ three-point attempt flew over the rim.

Balance was the key for NMH offensively as Hector Harold led the way with 20 points,Laurent Rivard had 19, and Majok Majok 15 including two massive drop step dunks.  Brown finished with 9 and Aaron Cosby 8.  Epps led the way for Hargrave with 20 while Lorenzo Brown and J.J. Mann each scored 17.

With the win, NMH advances to the National Prep School Championship game tonight at 7:30 vs. the winner of the Brewster Academy/St. Thomas More game.

NMH gets the NEPSAC Class A quarterfinal win over MCI. Let’s go!

March 4th, 2010 | by NMH Boys Basketball
  • Majok Majok '10

  • NMH (21-6)  76
  • MCI  69
  • The boys basketball team got the great news about the boys hockey team right before tip-off and didn’t want them to have all the fun on Friday.
  • NMH got off to a very slow start as MCI had a 8-6 lead after 7:00 of play! NMH was down 26-17 with 3:00 to go in the first half. NMH stepped up the defense over the final stretch as they outscored MCI 10-0 to end the half with a 27-26 lead.
  • At halftime, NMH put the first half behind them and made the commitment to get the tempo higher and that is exactly what they did. Attacking the basket and stepping up the defensive pressure, NMH had a 20 point lead in the 2nd half and a 16 point lead at 66-50 lead with 4:40. MCI was not willing to hand the game over and suddenly caught fire, attacked the basket and got themselves to the free throw line for points with the clock stopped. NMH managed to hit the big shot or make the big play to keep MCI’s run at bay. NMH survives with the 76-69 win.
  • Next up…NMH moves on to the semifinals for a rematch with the Winchendon School. Game is set for Friday at 6:00pm at Endicott. We hope to see you there!!! The boys basketball tourney held steady as the top 4 seeds move on to the semifinals. Brewster and St. Thomas More meet up in the 8:00 game.
  • Thanks for all of the support today (Dick’s SWIS Tweets as reported by Ted D.) especially those who made the trip. Your support made all the difference and your cheers gave the added push we needed. NMH has the best fans!!! Congrats to boys hockey on their win tonight over the #1 seed. Good luck in the semifinals!
  • NMH got strong play from their backcourt of point guards and Hector Harold hit a bunch of big shots including a stretch of 10 unanswered points that was the difference in tonight’s game.
  • Highlights…
  • Hector Harold ’10 (Pepperdine University)…20 points, 5 steals, 4 rebounds
  • Josh Elbaum ’10…10 points, 7 steals, 4 assists, 3 steals.
